I worked with artist Karen Garrett de Luna to create this interactive swarm of LED fireflies. Karen’s project involves over one thousand tiny green lights that react to motion and stillness.

For this project I created custom software for the Arduino platform to control the LEDs. I worked with Karen to develop an animation system that would mimic the behavior of fireflies in the wild (random flashing that slowly becomes synchronized with neighboring fireflies). The software also communicates with two motion sensors that detect visitors to the installation and react to their movement.
